Thin, old fiberglass insulation in an atticThin, settled insulation like this is common in older homes
Why depth matters

Most older Tampa Bay attics are under-insulated

The U.S. Department of Energy recommends R-30 to R-60 of attic insulation for most of Florida. Plenty of older homes have a fraction of that, and what's there has settled, thinned out and been trampled by years of AC and cable work.

Thin spots and bare patches let the afternoon heat pour straight through your ceiling. We bring the whole attic up to an even depth, mark it with attic rulers, and keep the soffit vents clear with baffles so the attic can still breathe.

  • Even, wall-to-wall coverage with no bare spots
  • Depth marked so you can see what you paid for
  • Installed over a sealed attic floor
Key benefits

Why blown-in works so well in Florida

Done right, it's one of the simplest ways to make a home cooler and cheaper to run.

01

Cooler ceilings and rooms

A full, even blanket stops the afternoon heat soaking down through your ceiling into the rooms below.

02

One of the best-value upgrades

Blown-in is one of the most cost-effective energy upgrades a home can get, especially over a sealed attic floor.

03

No gaps or thin spots

Loose-fill flows around wires, pipes and framing, filling the gaps that batts and rolls leave behind.

04

The attic still breathes

Baffles at the eaves keep soffit vents open, so the attic stays ventilated and dry.

05

Pest-resistant option

Borate-treated cellulose helps deter insects and pests while it insulates.

06

Quick, clean install

Most attics are done in a day, blown in through a hose from a truck outside.

How it works

Blown-in insulation, step by step

Most attics are done in a day, or a day or two if we're removing old insulation first.

  1. 1

    Free inspection

We measure your current depth, check its condition and look at ventilation, wiring and anything that needs fixing first.

  2. 2

    Recommend the right option

Top up, or remove and redo? Fiberglass or cellulose? We explain the options and price points and give you a written price on the day.

  3. 3

    Air seal the attic floor

Gaps around lights, top plates and penetrations are sealed first, so the new insulation isn't fighting moving air.

  4. 4

    Prep the attic

Baffles at the eaves to keep vents open, attic rulers placed, and recessed lights, hatches and the air handler handled properly.

  5. 5

    Blow it in

Insulation is blown in from our truck through a hose to an even depth, wall to wall, including the hard-to-reach eaves.

  6. 6

    Check and clean up

We check the depth against the rulers, photograph the finished attic and clean up before we leave.

Your options

Fiberglass or cellulose?

Both work well in Florida when they're installed properly. We carry both and recommend what suits your attic and budget.

Blown-in fiberglass

Lightweight, doesn't absorb water, and won't settle much over time. A clean, reliable choice for most attics.

  • Moisture-resistant
  • Holds its depth well
  • Non-combustible

Borate-treated cellulose

Made largely from recycled paper and treated with borates, which help deter insects and pests and resist fire.

  • Dense, fills gaps tightly
  • Helps deter pests
  • High recycled content
Patchy vs. done properly

Blown-in insulation FAQ

Your questions, answered

Straight answers to what people ask us most about blown-in insulation.

What is blown-in insulation?
Loose-fill insulation, either fiberglass or cellulose, that's blown into the attic through a hose. It flows around wires, pipes and framing to form an even blanket with no gaps, which is hard to achieve with batts or rolls.
How much insulation does a Florida attic need?
The U.S. Department of Energy recommends R-30 to R-60 in attics for most of Florida. We'll tell you where your attic is now and recommend a target depth and R-value in writing with your quote.
Fiberglass or cellulose: which is better?
Both work well when installed properly. Fiberglass is light, moisture-resistant and holds its depth. Borate-treated cellulose is dense, fills gaps tightly and helps deter pests. We carry both and will recommend what suits your attic and budget.
Can you add blown-in over my old insulation?
Sometimes, if the existing insulation is clean, dry and even. If it's flattened, damp, dirty or full of rodent droppings, we recommend removing it first so you're not burying the problem. We'll tell you honestly at the inspection.
Do you air seal before blowing in insulation?
Yes, on every job. Insulation slows heat but doesn't stop air moving through it. Sealing the attic floor first means the new insulation can actually do its job.
Will blown-in insulation block my attic vents?
Not when it's installed properly. We fit baffles at the eaves to keep the soffit vents open so air can still flow through the attic.
Does blown-in insulation settle?
All loose-fill settles a little over time. We install to the right depth to allow for that, and mark it with attic rulers so you can check it in the future.
Is it safe around recessed lights?
We check your recessed lights during the inspection. Lights that aren't rated for contact with insulation are covered or handled properly before insulation goes in.
Can you insulate a garage ceiling?
Yes. If there's an attic space above your garage, we can blow insulation in just like a main attic. It helps keep rooms next to or above the garage cooler.
How long does it take?
Most attics are done in a single day. If we're removing old insulation first, the full job usually takes one to three days.
Is it messy?
No. The insulation is blown in from our truck outside through a hose to the attic. We protect the route to the attic hatch and clean up before we leave.
How much does blown-in insulation cost?
It depends on the size of the attic, how much is already there, the material you choose and whether anything needs removing or sealing first. You'll get a clear, written price on the day of your free inspection.

I found Danny on Google, who is the one winning so many positive reviews! Danny came to do the estimate and offered a good deal. Today I just had my insulation project done. I would strongly recommend Danny's Heat Hunters Insulation. They spent one day to clean out all the old insulation and disinfected the attic, and the second day to install new insulation, 13 inches thick! The new radiant barriers are new materials that can efficiently block the heat from the roof. Two workers took an extra day to install radiant barriers. They made everything look much better than before. I am super satisfied with their work. Danny deserves all the good praise and respect.

We were in the market for insulation but weren't sure which kind to get. Heat Hunters was the only company to both offer a full diagnostic and to carry all insulation types. They went over all the options with us with different price points and we decided to remove the old dirty stuff, sanitize the attic, seal up the holes in the attic floor, put in baffles, and install cellulose treated with borates to keep pests away.

My wife and I are really impressed and feel like it was money well spent. Plus, our energy bill is already so much lower. This will clearly pay for itself. But the big plus is we can finally sleep through the night in our master! Go with these guys. They're good people and they're all extremely passionate. Very fair pricing too.

These guys are great. I have saved quite a bit on my electric bill - highly recommend if you're hemorrhaging money with your AC. It only runs for a few hours during the day now, before it ran constantly.

If I could sum this review up, it would be: I wish I would've done it SOONER.

Our energy bills were getting ridiculous, and we finally hit the point where we were tired of throwing money away every month. Heat Hunters came out, showed us exactly where our home was losing energy, and made the whole insulation process easy to understand.

Now our house feels more comfortable, and our monthly insulation payment plus our energy bill is still less than what we were paying before.

So happy we found these guys. Now I just think about how much money we could've saved if we had done it earlier. Highly recommend!

Travis and Jermiah were awesome. They were very polite and respectful. After they were finished in the attic they cleaned up any mess that they made. My wife and I would hire them in a heartbeat again. I can't say enough about this company and the crew. Again thank you very much.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why remove old insulation instead of adding more on top?

Old insulation is often flattened, patchy, damp or contaminated with dust and rodent waste. Piling new material on top buries those problems and blocks access to the air leaks underneath. Removing it lets us sanitize, seal the leaks properly, then re-insulate on a clean base, so you get the full benefit of the new insulation.

What happens at the free attic inspection?

A Heat Hunters tech checks your attic, insulation and AC, takes photos of what's up there and walks you through them. You get clear options and same-day pricing. If nothing needs doing, we'll tell you.

What's a blower door and why do your installers use it?

A blower door is a powerful fan fitted into a doorway that depressurizes the house. While it runs, air rushes through every hidden crack, which makes leaks easy for our crew to find and seal. The reading drops as leaks are closed, so we know the air sealing is working.

How long does removal and re-insulation take?

It depends on the size and condition of your attic. You'll get a clear timeline with your quote, and we work around your schedule.

What types of homes do you work on?

Homes with an attic: single-family homes, townhomes, side-by-side duplexes and mobile homes. For businesses, see our commercial spray foam services.
