Why spray foam

Seal and insulate in one step

Commercial buildings have big roof decks, metal panels and complicated details where batts and loose-fill struggle. Spray foam fills, bonds and air seals as it insulates, so there are no gaps for hot, humid air to get through.

Closed cell foam adds rigidity and acts as a strong moisture barrier, which is what stops metal buildings from sweating. Open cell is lighter, great for sound control, and offers lower cost per inch where moisture isn't the main concern.

  • Lower cooling load across large roof and wall areas
  • Stops condensation on metal roofs and walls
  • Specified in writing for your building
Key benefits

What spray foam does for a commercial building

01

Lower operating cost

A reduced cooling load across large roof and wall areas means lower bills, month after month.

02

Condensation control

Closed cell foam keeps warm, humid air off cold metal, so roofs and walls stop dripping.

03

Air-sealed envelope

Fewer drafts, less dust and less humidity coming through gaps, seams and penetrations.

04

Added rigidity

Closed cell foam bonds to and stiffens metal panels and roof decks.

05

Quieter spaces

Open cell foam absorbs sound, ideal for offices, studios and spaces near busy roads.

06

Documented work

Photos and a written summary of what was installed where, for your records.

Your options

Open cell or closed cell?

Both have their place. We'll recommend one, in writing, after the assessment.

Closed cell spray foam

Dense and rigid, with a high R-value per inch. It's a strong moisture and air barrier, which makes it the go-to for metal buildings and condensation problems.

  • Stops condensation on metal
  • Adds strength to panels
  • Highest R-value per inch

Open cell spray foam

Lighter and softer, it expands to fill gaps and absorbs sound well. A cost-effective choice for offices and interiors where moisture isn't the main issue.

  • Great for sound control
  • Lower cost per inch
  • Fills complex cavities
Batts vs. spray foam

Why spray foam beats faced batts in metal buildings

Many metal buildings go up with faced fiberglass batts. Here's how they compare in Florida.

Faced fiberglass battsSpray foam
Condensation✕Drips once the facing tears✓Closed cell keeps humid air off the metal
Air sealing✕Gaps at seams and edges✓Seals as it insulates
Over time✕Sags, tears and falls✓Bonded in place
Pests✕Easy to nest in✓Much harder to get into
Structure✕Adds nothing✓Closed cell adds rigidity
Upfront cost✕Lower✓Higher

Commercial spray foam FAQ

Your questions, answered

Straight answers to what building owners and managers ask us most.

What types of commercial buildings do you insulate?
Warehouses and distribution buildings, metal buildings, offices, retail units, workshops, garages, pole barns and storage buildings, plus new commercial construction. If it has a roof and walls, ask us.
Open cell or closed cell: which do I need?
It depends on the building, moisture conditions and budget. Closed cell is the usual choice for metal buildings and anywhere condensation is a problem. Open cell is lighter, better for sound and lower cost per inch where moisture isn't the main concern. We'll recommend one in writing after the assessment.
Will spray foam stop my metal building from sweating?
Closed cell spray foam applied to the underside of a metal roof or wall keeps warm, humid air away from the cold metal, which is what causes condensation. It's one of the most effective fixes for dripping metal buildings.
What R-value does spray foam give?
Closed cell foam typically gives around R-6 to R-7 per inch, and open cell around R-3.5 to R-4 per inch. We'll specify the thickness and target R-value for your building in writing.
Can you work around our business hours?
Yes. We'll plan the job around your operations, including phased work or after-hours where needed, to keep disruption to a minimum.
Do we need to clear the building?
We'll tell you exactly what needs moving or covering. Equipment and stock are protected, and manufacturers recommend keeping people out of the spray area for a period after application. We'll plan that with you up front.
Does spray foam need a fire barrier?
In many commercial uses, building codes require spray foam to be covered by a thermal or ignition barrier, or use a coating designed for it. We'll advise what your building needs to meet code.
Can you spray over existing insulation?
Usually old faced batts or damaged insulation are removed first so the foam can bond directly to the roof deck or wall. We'll assess what's there during the walk-through.
How long does a commercial job take?
It depends on the size of the building and how much area is being sprayed. We'll give you a schedule with your written specification.
Do you also spray foam homes?
Yes. Many of our residential customers have chosen spray foam for their attics. If it's a home, start with our residential pages or just ask us at the inspection.
Is spray foam safe?
Yes, when the right product is used and installed properly by trained crews with the right protective equipment and ventilation. Once cured, the foam is inert.
How much does commercial spray foam cost?
It depends on the area, foam type and thickness, access and any prep needed. You'll get a clear, written price with your specification after a free site assessment.

This spray foam is awesome. The guys did a solid job. Got it done in a day and left the place spotless. Not cheap but fair price and I wouldn't trust any other company spraying foam in my house.

We work from home and our offices upstairs were unbearable this summer. Now my wife and I both can't get over how cool and quiet it is up here and we're excited to see a lower bill next month. Love this stuff!

We had a very good experience with Heat Hunters. Our house was built in 2002 and it was obvious after they tested that a lot of corners were cut during its construction.

This is our forever home and we wanted it to be more comfortable especially during the summer/winter. So we opted for closed cell foam since it lasts much longer. We're still waiting to see how our AC bills shift (down we expect) but more importantly our home feels much more comfortable now and our sleep quality has improved which was a huge unexpected benefit since we used to struggle to sleep well. HH's service was an excellent Value. Would recommend.

I was absolutely blown away by how thorough the initial inspection was. Danny spent over an hour looking at my gas water heater, the AC, the attic, and then doing that crazy blower door test! I can't believe I hadn't heard of that test sooner. I KNEW my house had to have been wasting cold air...I just didnt realize how bad it was. Such an eye opener. And I didnt think i could have so much fun learning about heat and "building science" (that's a new one for me). My wife and I learned more about our home from Heat Hunters in 2 hours than we have in the last 5 years from several different HVAC companies.

We were excited to move forward and we are so glad we did. It feels amazing in here and it's so refreshing to deal with a company who gives a damn and treats you like royalty. The install crew was so polite to us and respectful of our space. They came in and laid down tarp over our carpeting and put plastic on our walls while they explained the plan. They removed the old insulation and cleaned up and then sprayed closed foam in our attic. We felt so safe with all of the testing they did throughout the process, and with the awesome communication. I can't thank these guys enough. Everyone should have their heat hunted by the Heat Hunters!

Well these boys certainly were a treat. My husband and I were curious about spray foam but had some reservations. None of the other contractors who visited us really helped us feel comfortable, and my gut was telling me maybe just move on and don't do it. But then Danny came out. He spent 45 minutes just inspecting our home and then took the extra time to answer our questions and go over the heat hunters process. We felt like we finally found what we were looking for. Fast forward to installation day, and Travis and Jay did such a wonderful job. We are so happy! I was worried about smells, but no smells! Just quiet and comfortable! It's rare to have such a positive experience with a contractor. We were so surprised to get service like this in this day and age. I can't brag about them enough. Well done "heat hunters"!

These gentlemen are class acts. Danny was very thorough and informative in his initial walk through and gave a fair price. I was impressed with his professionalism and agreed to move forward. Travis and Jay who installed were just as professional and extremely hard workers. The whole company felt like a family and they treated mine with respect. We are all very happy with the results.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why remove old insulation instead of adding more on top?

Old insulation is often flattened, patchy, damp or contaminated with dust and rodent waste. Piling new material on top buries those problems and blocks access to the air leaks underneath. Removing it lets us sanitize, seal the leaks properly, then re-insulate on a clean base, so you get the full benefit of the new insulation.

What happens at the free attic inspection?

A Heat Hunters tech checks your attic, insulation and AC, takes photos of what's up there and walks you through them. You get clear options and same-day pricing. If nothing needs doing, we'll tell you.

What's a blower door and why do your installers use it?

A blower door is a powerful fan fitted into a doorway that depressurizes the house. While it runs, air rushes through every hidden crack, which makes leaks easy for our crew to find and seal. The reading drops as leaks are closed, so we know the air sealing is working.

How long does removal and re-insulation take?

It depends on the size and condition of your attic. You'll get a clear timeline with your quote, and we work around your schedule.

What types of homes do you work on?

Homes with an attic: single-family homes, townhomes, side-by-side duplexes and mobile homes. For businesses, see our commercial spray foam services.
