The problem underneath

Belly wrap doesn't last in Florida

The fabric underbelly (bottom board) on most manufactured homes tears, sags and comes loose over time. Once it does, the fiberglass behind it falls out or soaks up moisture, and the ducts and pipes under the floor sit exposed to heat, humidity and pests.

Spray foam applied to the underside of the floor bonds in place. It insulates and air seals in one step, and closed cell foam doesn't absorb water like loose batts do.

  • Stops heat and humidity coming up through the floor
  • Won't sag, tear or fall out
  • Makes it much harder for pests to get in
Key benefits

Why spray foam under a mobile home

The underbelly is the weak spot in most manufactured homes. Here's what sealing it properly changes.

01

Cooler, more comfortable floors

No more warm, clammy floors in summer or cold floors on chilly mornings.

02

Moisture resistant

Closed cell foam doesn't soak up water like loose fiberglass, so it keeps working in Florida humidity.

03

Fewer pests

A sealed underside is far harder for rodents, snakes and insects to get through.

04

Air sealed in one step

Foam seals the gaps around pipes, wires and ducts as it insulates, stopping drafts through the floor.

05

Lower energy bills

Less heat and humidity getting into your home from below means your AC has less to fight.

06

Built to last

Bonded to the underside of the floor, it won't sag, tear or fall out like belly wrap and batts.

How it works

Mobile home insulation, step by step

Most homes are done in a day or two.

  1. 1

    Free inspection

We check the underbelly, skirting access, ductwork, plumbing, moisture and any signs of pests, and photograph what we find.

  2. 2

    Clear plan and price

We explain what needs doing and give you a written price on the day, with no pressure.

  3. 3

    Access and clear out

We open a section of skirting for access, then remove failed belly wrap and wet or fallen insulation where needed.

  4. 4

    Protect and prep

Ducts, pipes and wiring are protected, and any obvious issues are flagged before we spray.

  5. 5

    Spray the underside

Spray foam is applied to the underside of the floor for a continuous, sealed layer of insulation.

  6. 6

    Close up and clean up

We replace the skirting, clean up underneath and around the home, and show you photos of the finished job.

Belly wrap vs. spray foam

Why foam beats fabric and fiberglass

Most manufactured homes leave the factory with belly wrap and fiberglass batts. Here's how they compare.

Belly wrap & battsSpray foam underbelly
Durability✕Tears, sags and comes loose✓Bonded to the floor, stays put
Moisture✕Fiberglass soaks up water and drops✓Closed cell foam resists water
Air sealing✕Gaps around pipes and ducts✓Seals as it insulates
Pests✕Easy to tear through and nest in✓Much harder to get through

Mobile home insulation FAQ

Your questions, answered

Straight answers to what people ask us most about insulating under a mobile home.

Why insulate under a mobile home?
Because the underbelly is the weak spot in most manufactured homes. Once the belly wrap tears and the fiberglass falls out or gets wet, heat, humidity and pests come straight up through the floor, and the ducts and pipes underneath sit exposed.
What is belly wrap?
Belly wrap, also called bottom board, is the fabric or plastic sheet stretched under a manufactured home to hold the floor insulation in place and keep pests out. Over time it tears, sags and comes loose, especially in Florida's heat and humidity.
Why spray foam instead of new batts and wrap?
Spray foam bonds directly to the underside of the floor, so it can't sag or fall out. It insulates and air seals in one step, and closed cell foam resists moisture. New wrap and batts can work, but in Florida they tend to fail the same way the originals did.
Do you have to remove the skirting?
Usually only a section for access. We remove it carefully and put it back when we're done. We'll explain the plan at the inspection.
Is spray foam safe under a mobile home?
Yes, when the right product is used and it's installed properly by trained crews wearing the right protective equipment. Once cured, the foam is inert. We'll let you know if there's any reason to be out of the home while we spray.
What happens to my ducts and pipes?
We protect ducts, pipes and wiring during the job and seal around them. If we find damaged or disconnected ductwork under the home, we'll show you photos and recommend repairs.
Will it stop pests getting under the floor?
A sealed, foamed underside is far harder for rodents, snakes and insects to get through or nest in than torn belly wrap. We also look for other entry points around the skirting.
Can you insulate the roof or walls of a mobile home too?
Ask us at the inspection. We'll look at the whole home and tell you where the biggest gains are, starting with the underbelly.
How long does it take?
Most mobile homes are done in a day or two, depending on the size of the home, access and how much old material needs clearing out first.
Do I need to be home?
Someone needs to let us know about access and pets, but we work from underneath, so most people carry on as normal. We'll tell you before the job if you should plan around us.
Does it help in winter too?
Yes. The same layer that keeps heat and humidity out in summer helps keep floors warmer on cold mornings.
How much does mobile home insulation cost?
It depends on the size of your home, access underneath and how much old material needs removing. You'll get a clear, written price on the day of your free inspection, with no pressure to decide.

I was absolutely blown away by how thorough the initial inspection was. Danny spent over an hour looking at my gas water heater, the AC, the attic, and then doing that crazy blower door test! I can't believe I hadn't heard of that test sooner. I KNEW my house had to have been wasting cold air...I just didnt realize how bad it was. Such an eye opener. And I didnt think i could have so much fun learning about heat and "building science" (that's a new one for me). My wife and I learned more about our home from Heat Hunters in 2 hours than we have in the last 5 years from several different HVAC companies.

We were excited to move forward and we are so glad we did. It feels amazing in here and it's so refreshing to deal with a company who gives a damn and treats you like royalty. The install crew was so polite to us and respectful of our space. They came in and laid down tarp over our carpeting and put plastic on our walls while they explained the plan. They removed the old insulation and cleaned up and then sprayed closed foam in our attic. We felt so safe with all of the testing they did throughout the process, and with the awesome communication. I can't thank these guys enough. Everyone should have their heat hunted by the Heat Hunters!

We had a very good experience with Heat Hunters. Our house was built in 2002 and it was obvious after they tested that a lot of corners were cut during its construction.

This is our forever home and we wanted it to be more comfortable especially during the summer/winter. So we opted for closed cell foam since it lasts much longer. We're still waiting to see how our AC bills shift (down we expect) but more importantly our home feels much more comfortable now and our sleep quality has improved which was a huge unexpected benefit since we used to struggle to sleep well. HH's service was an excellent Value. Would recommend.

This spray foam is awesome. The guys did a solid job. Got it done in a day and left the place spotless. Not cheap but fair price and I wouldn't trust any other company spraying foam in my house.

We work from home and our offices upstairs were unbearable this summer. Now my wife and I both can't get over how cool and quiet it is up here and we're excited to see a lower bill next month. Love this stuff!

Travis and Jermiah were awesome. They were very polite and respectful. After they were finished in the attic they cleaned up any mess that they made. My wife and I would hire them in a heartbeat again. I can't say enough about this company and the crew. Again thank you very much.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why remove old insulation instead of adding more on top?

Old insulation is often flattened, patchy, damp or contaminated with dust and rodent waste. Piling new material on top buries those problems and blocks access to the air leaks underneath. Removing it lets us sanitize, seal the leaks properly, then re-insulate on a clean base, so you get the full benefit of the new insulation.

What happens at the free attic inspection?

A Heat Hunters tech checks your attic, insulation and AC, takes photos of what's up there and walks you through them. You get clear options and same-day pricing. If nothing needs doing, we'll tell you.

What's a blower door and why do your installers use it?

A blower door is a powerful fan fitted into a doorway that depressurizes the house. While it runs, air rushes through every hidden crack, which makes leaks easy for our crew to find and seal. The reading drops as leaks are closed, so we know the air sealing is working.

How long does removal and re-insulation take?

It depends on the size and condition of your attic. You'll get a clear timeline with your quote, and we work around your schedule.

What types of homes do you work on?

Homes with an attic: single-family homes, townhomes, side-by-side duplexes and mobile homes. For businesses, see our commercial spray foam services.
